Exactly 29 years ago, Croatia got its national domain, thus beginning its formal recognition in the global Internet space. The management of the Croatian national domain is assigned to CARNET by the international organization ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
The first registered domain was srce.hr, and there are currently 119878 registered domains. Croatia is the only European country that allows its citizens and legal entities to register free .hr domains. They make up the largest number, almost 70 percent of registered domains.
In addition to free and paid secondary .hr domains, it is possible to register free tertiary .from.hr domains whose purpose is to achieve a virtual identity of private individuals and paid tertiary com.hr domains for marketing activities of private individuals and legal entities from around the world. Registration of all .hr domains is done in accordance with the Ordinance on the organisation and management of the national top-level domain.
